A gentle voice rises from Radio Rewan: “Esmer eman, xelk zewicî, ez û tu man …” It is the voice of Seyadê Şamê. After 20 years, his family, who believed he had been killed, hears his voice again on the radio. Qulingê Birîndar tells a story of imprisonment and exile, pain and love, devotion and loyalty, as well as the longing and 49 years of waiting endured by Zulfinaza Xanoyê Emo, Seyad’s partner. The documentary traces the life story of the dengbêj Seyadê Şamê, who worked for Radio Rewan, while offering a poignant reflection of the realities of Kurdish society.
